Age: 1939. The ship was built for Cunard at Birkenhead.

Details about Mauretania:
Tonnage: 35 739 ton
Type: passenger; 475 First, 390 Cabin, 304 Tourist Class, 593 Crew
Built for Cunard at Birkenhead. She was completed 1939 and went into commission as a passenger liner on June 17th of that year. She embarked on her voyage from Liverpool to New York under Captain A.T. Brown.
She continued to sail between N.Y. London/Southampton until she in September 1939 was converted in Sydney for use as a troop-carrier. She transferred servicemen between U.S. Australia and Europe until the end of WWII.
In 1946 Mauretania was overhauled at Liverpool. She recommenced service as a passenger liner sailing between N.Y. and Liverpool or Southampton. Her last voyage in November 1965 was to Inverkeithing in Scotland, where she was scrapped.

April 16th 1921, renamed Berengaria. Sailed Southampton-Cherbourg-New York. September 1921, engine converted to fuel oil.
May 1922, back in service.
1936, passenger accommodation revised to cabin tourist and third.
March 1938, final voyage, New York-Cherbourg and finally Southampton after which she was sold for breaking up. The war however intervened and it was not until 1946 that the hull was finally dismantled. |
